Stocks Close Higher as Oil Prices Fall, Treasury Yields Stabilize

The stock market closed higher on Friday, supported by a decline in oil prices amid hopes for peace in the Middle East and a stabilization in Treasury yields.

WTI crude futures fell more than 2% to around $92.65 a barrel, while the 10-year Treasury yield steadied between 5.17% and 5.21% after reaching multi-year highs earlier.

Overall, S&P 500 and Nasdaq rose 0.5% to 7,743 and 27,069, respectively.

Chart of the Day

Here is the one-year chart of TJX Companies (TJX) as of September 15, 2026, when the stock was at $125.

Last quarter, TJX maintained double-digit profit growth, with profit up 11% on a 5% increase in revenue as same store sales (SSS) increased 4%. However, the stock went into a free-fall after earnings as Marmaxx (TJ MAxx, Marshalls, and Sierra) had SSS growth of a measly 1%. Marmaxx SSS growth was 9% just a quarter earlier, so this was a big slowdown.

On the bright side, international operations and HomeGoods recorded 7% SSS growth last quarter.

TJX stock went from $154 to $125 since our report last quarter, but the P/E has fallen from 29 to 24 as the stock has gone from overvalued to undervalued in our opinion.

TJX is a core holding in the Conservative Growth Portfolio.
