Sharek’s Take | ||
The weather storms have hurt LKQ’s (LKQ) sales but they also have hurt cars. America’s largest salvage company is going through some sluggish weather right now that’s making it hard to produce premium results. Still, the bad weather will blow over and result in more car repairs in later quarters. These’s a lot to love here. LKQ closed on its acquisition of Keystone Automotive and this will being in another $700 million in sales for 2014. The company is also expanding well into Europe and even said it will add 20 stores to its Euro Car Parts retail chain. LKQ is a rare company with the ability to grow 20% a year with certainty & consistency. It’s also undervalued by 24% right now. This company is cruising along.
One-Year Chart | ||
LKQ stock fell after the company missed, not the stock is on a nice dip — get some LKQ if you don’t have some already. The Est. LTG fell from 24% to 22% this qtr (whatever), but Estimates show solid results forthcoming.
rmallEarnings Table | ||
The headline from IBD after LQK reported last qtr was “LKQ Q4 misses, guides low”. Then in the fine print profits and sales rose 24%.LKQ missed by a couple of cents last qtr, and met the prior two qtrs. No news. Annual Profit Estimates have remained steady for quite a while, inching up a bit each quarter.Quarterly profit growth estimates look very good, but the 38% growth in the 4QtrsOutEst might be revised down due to the easy comparisons from this year — or the company could put out a great qtr if the weather doesn’t get in the way. |

Fair Value | ||
Look at how LKQ has record profits each year. Because car parts are necessities and are needed in good times and bad. I see a steady climb with this stock, with solid upside this year and next.
Ten-Year Chart | ||
This stock got a little ahead of itself last year, and needed to correct. Now it has. Notice the solid 28% stock growth during the last decade, I wish I bought LKQ ten years ago, but I was a young pup and didn’t know.

Growth Portfolio
14 of 25 |
LKQ is a solid core holding that should continue to cruise along and deliver its investors 20% plus returns. 30% profit growth is expected this year, and the P/E of 19 means the stock is on sale. LKQ is ranked 14th of 25 stocks in the Growth Portfolio Power Rankings. LKQ isn’t timely enough for the Aggressive Growth Portfolio. |
