Sharek’s Take | ||
So Buffalo Wild Wings just had profit growth slow from 71% to 42% and 20% the next last three qtrs. The next two qtrs estimates are -1% and 3%. This perennial 25% grower had a great 2014, with profits up probably 30% to 35%, due to low wing prices & the World Cup. 2015 will probably be a return to the mean. Maybe 20% growth. With a P/E of 26, my 2015 Fair Value is $136. The stock is $170 today. My 2015 Fair Value is $136 and 2015’s is $165. I’m going to go ahead and sell BWLD from the Growth Portfolio and will look to buy it back at a lower level.
One-Year Chart | ||
Big warning sign in the Estimates, and these numbers just got reduced. These charts were done on 11/6 and this morning, 12/3, I see the stock closed at $170.
Earnings Table | ||
BWLD only grew sales 13% last qtr, down from 20% 2QtrsAgo. Grew profits increased 20%. 2QtrsAgo sales were helped by the World Cup (which won’t be happening next year). The company beat the street by 7 cents but this estimate was lowered by 5 cents earlier. Annual Profit Estimates came down a bit this qtr. Top stocks have estimates increasing.Quarterly profit growth could be weak through the first quarter of next year. And these estimates just came down, so they could do so again. |

Fair Value | ||
With the stock at $170 today, its well over the 2015 Fair Value, and even higher than the 2016 Fair Value. So BWLD could be $170 two years from now? I love this company, but I’m trying to make 20% per year in a stock.
Ten-Year Chart | ||
I originally purchased BWLD at $11 on 2/9/06. The gain will be around 800%. Do note the last time profits grew 31% (2011) they grew only 11% the following year (2012).

Growth Portfolio
N/A |
Buffalo Wild Wings is a great stock to own for the long-term, but I think at this point the stock has limited upside the next couple of years. The P/E is 28 and profit growth could likely be around 20% next year. I will sell BWLD from the Growth Portfolio and look to get back in later at a lower price.
