Stocks Fall as Trump Plans Tariffs on Japan, South Korea

The stock market closed lower on Monday after President Donald Trump announced his tariff plans with varying rates on countries including Japan, South Korea and South Africa. In particular, 25% tariffs on Japan and South Korea will be effective starting August 1.

Overall, S&P 500 declined 0.8% to 6,230, while NASDAQ fell 0.9% to 20,413.

Although NVIDIA stock has not done much during the past year, the company continues to deliver splendid results as it proves it is still the King of AI. Last quarter, NVIDIA delivered 57% year-over-year profit growth as revenue jumped 69%.

The company’s largest segment, Datacenter, registered 73% revenue growth as AI datacenter demand is staggering.

Now, NVIDIA is tapping into the global wave of sovereign AI projects, landing a multibillion-dollar deal to supply chips for Saudi Arabia’s new AI company, Humain. Humain is a Saudi Arabian company that uses AI to create realistic digital humans for customer service, entertainment, and virtual assistants.

NVIDIA is also expected to benefit from AI data centers being developed in France, Taiwan, and the UAE, as nations race to build their own AI infrastructure. Management added Japan, Korea, India, Canada France UK, and more are now building national AI factories.

Additionally, CoreWeave — one of NVIDIA’s largest cloud partners — has also emerged as a major buyer, helping fuel demand for the company’s AI chips.
